Screen Print Series

This series combines drawings from when my son Miles was very young. I've always been fascinated by his untainted forms, free of overthinking and completely expressive. I scanned some of my favorite pieces, manipulated them lightly in Photoshop to keep them as true to the originals as possible, then combined them with scenes based on my own interpretation. Miles' drawings stay in color while my additions are in greyscale.

The first print places his tree drawings in a Joshua Tree National Park landscape. His trees always reminded me of Joshua trees, so I gave them the desert setting they seemed to belong in.

The second print is completely abstract. I played with scale and layering using his colored squares as the foundation.

The final print shows his "superheroes" inside stacked TVs, exploring how much of kids' imagination comes from the devices around them.

I added text elements to all three prints for texture and visual interest.

Process

Below shows a few of Miles' original drawings of which I worked with for the screen print series.
