Wish You Were Here

Three people, three very different relationships, three shadowbox cards that let you literally see through my feelings about each of them.

I wanted to create something more personal than your typical greeting card, so I designed these pieces around the idea that words can have layers and depth. Each card represents a different emotional connection: love, friendship, and hate, indicated by heart, beer bottle, and tombstone shapes cut into the typography.

The process was intentionally hands-on. I started with digital designs in Illustrator, then spent hours meticulously hand-cutting each letterform so you could see through the words to the layers beneath. The envelopes got the same treatment with roughly sewn fabric that matched back to the thread colors used in each card inside.

The "see through" typography felt like the perfect metaphor for how these three people had become such transparent parts of my emotional landscape, whether in love, friendship, or the complicated space of unresolved feelings.
